More than 100 years of rose breeding at Rosen Tantau. For more than 100 years the garden rose breeding has been the core business of Rosen Tantau. During all that time the company has specialized on different types of roses. 20 years ago, however, Rosen Tantau started to intensively diversifying his breeding lines to different types of rose classes.
The German Rose Society has awarded the nostalgic rose “Soul®” the prize “Rose of the year 2018”. Our newly built show greenhouse was the frame of a small reception during which the president of the German Rose Society, Professor Hans-Peter Mühlbach, has passed on the prize to our head of breeding Jens Krüger.
We are very proud to receive this trophy for the shrub rose Soul®, a rose in a purple tone which expels an intensive rosy smell. The nostalgically doubled flowers and the very resistant foliage make it a very attractive garden rose. This vigorous and powerful rose has also successfully passed the ADR examination, the worlds hardest rose assessment.
The most difficult moments in the development and growth of the business were, of course, the two world wars and the heavy hailstorm on August 10th, 1925 which destroyed all rose fields, under-stocks and greenhouses, not covered by any insurance.
